Letter from the Principal

Welcome to an exciting year at Anton Elementary School. I am truly honored to continue as the Principal at Anton Elementary School. I look forward to working with the dedicated staff, students, and families to provide the best possible educational program for our school community.

We are excited to continue to extend our students’ knowledge with Common Core State Standards and College and Career Readiness. We are committed to holding high expectations for students to acquire skills for collaboration, creativity, communication and enhanced their critical thinking skills. All students have access to iPad technology and our new iMac Computer lab to strengthen our students’ 21st Century Skills. Our Literacy Block and Guided Language Acquisition Design Model continued to provide students with the reading, writing and vocabulary skills needed to be successful.

We will continue to be an AVID Elementary School. Our AVID Focus will be school wide for the 2017-18. AVID will provide our students with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in their education from Elementary through College. We are also continuing our Positive Behavior Support (PBiS) merit/point system. Students will be able to earn points for displaying positive behavior and will earn incentives throughout the year. Our incentive for the top point earners will be a field trip at the end of the year.

Anton’s Fine Arts Program will continue this school year with a focus on Visual Arts for all students. Band will also be available for students in the 4th – 6th grade and 3rd grade students will begin their music study with recorders. We are continuing our Dual Immersion program with TK, Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade and Third Grade, which focuses on creating Bi-Literacy for students. Please contact our office if you would like more information on enrolling your student in the Dual Immersion program.

Our Vice Principal, Margaret Castro and I, along with the outstanding staff here at Anton, will continue to ensure that our students are learning the skills and strategies to be successful with our new Common Core State Standards.

We will have plenty of opportunities for parents/families to be involved in the success of our school community. We invite you to join our School Site Council (SSC), English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC), African American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC), Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), and Fine Arts Parent Workshops. Parent volunteers are always welcomed!

Please feel free to come to our office or call at 909-386-2000 if you have any questions.
